Vietnamese Bun
Welcome to JS readers! Feel free to browse my previous posts and recipes. For now, here’s the recipe that was in the paper, in case you’re looking for an electronic copy. Bun is probably one of my favorite summertime salads. If you don’t like beef, feel free to use shrimp, pork, tofu or chicken as the protein in this salad.
Vietnamese Bun with Seared Beef
Salad (makes 4 servings):
1 recipe seared beef
1 recipe nuoc cham
8 oz rice vermicelli or bean thread noodles
1 small head red leaf or Boston lettuce, shredded
3 carrots, julienned
1/2 large English cucumber, julienned
4 T chopped basil
4 T chopped cilantro
2 T chopped mint
roasted peanuts, crushed, optional
Cook noodles according to package directions and chill in ice water under ready to use. Arrange a bed of lettuce on each plate. Top with chilled, drained noodles, carrots, cucumber, sliced beef, herbs and peanuts, if using. Drizzle nuoc cham over salad and serve extra along side.
Seared beef
1 lb sirloin or flank steak
1 large sprig basil (6-8 leaves)
1 large sprig mint (6-8 leaves)
1 clove garlic, crushed
3 T fish sauce*
3 T canola oil
juice of 1/2 lime
Tear basil and mint and combine with other ingredients. Add beef and marinade for at least 1 hour but no more than 3. Pat meat dry, then pan sear over medium-high heat or grill until desired doneness.
Nuoc Cham
1/2 c hot water
1/4 c fish sauce*
3 T sugar
2-3 T lime juice
1 clove garlic, minced
3 Thai bird chiles or one large serrano, seeded and minced
Combine hot water and sugar to dissolve. Add other ingredients and adjust seasoning to your liking by adding more acid (lime), salt (fish sauce) or sugar.
* Preferably 3 Crabs brand. Look for the pink label with 3 crabs on it.

My partner and I were talking about how we spent our lives in the past couple years and life in general. I always enjoy spending moment with him through a wonderful conversation. Our professor gave us a school project where we have to write a song regarding life in general. I’m studying Art and Music in a university in our city and I’m really thrilled to start working on the project we were asked to do.

I was observing my kids playing by the lawn and they were so active playing with their toys. I always enjoy watching them as they are but every time I start thinking that they’ll be going to school soon worries me. Life in general can be very happy when you’re still young but things become different as you grow up.

9. My partner will be leaving next month for Australia due to career related reasons . I was apprehensive that living away from each other will create problems in our bond in the future. However he guaranteed me that everything will be good enough and there’s nothing to be anxious about. Life in general can be a little harsh for us newlyweds to fall in a situation like this.

Great tip…my pops always made our birds candybars for the winter. Try rolling balls of chunky peanutbutter rolled in millet, corn and sunflower seeds. They cant get enough of the stuff.

I have a appointment with my dentist next week to have my braces removed . I am so excited because I have been having my braces for 2 years now. I can no longer recall how I really looked without my braces. I’m thinking to have a hair cut after going the dentist to have a full make over of myself. I’ll be visiting to the dentist tomorrow to accompany my grandfather. He’s having troubles with his false teeth because it never stops on coming off. whenever he chews or talks it would just unexpectedly come off and he finds it very embarrassing . We’re planning to have his false teeth adjusted or maybe get him some new ones.

Jimmy and I were discussing about bringing our kids to the dentist next week. Our kids have habits of eating chocolates and not brushing their teeth afterwards . This resulted to their cavities . I’m just worried that the kids and I will be having many troubles tomorrow because they are scared of going to the clinic.

I’m thinking to set an schedule with my dentist tomorrow for a check-up since I’ve been experiencing from tooth sensitivity recently . I find it very agonizing to consume a glass of cold juice which is definitely unusual for me. I was amazed to see my officemate with really white teeth yesterday. She whispered she visited to the dentist to have her teeth bleached. Because of her statements I’m thinking to visit my dentist next week to have dental bleaching as well.

I was reading a literary work by Pearl S. Buck concerning China and life in general for the Chinese individuals in the past . It was a very fascinating novel about how the Chinese people lived their lives and about their unique beliefs and traditions .

I was walking at the mall when I noticed a thief running towards the exit carrying a bag from a young lady. I was relieved that it wasn’t me whose bag was snatched but I felt sad for the victim. Life in general can be unexpectedly harsh for some of us.

My friend suggested a car rental shop when my family and I had a recreational activity out of town. It was an option for us since we didn’t have a car back then. I didn’t regret renting one because it was enjoyable and now I know that it is more convenient.

Whether is belts or sunglasses, the accessories are the key. In today’s trends, keeping up to the latest is become a challenge, a expense for sure. Quality cost quite a lot these days.

My friend has a small business on car rentals and he really loves having it. Part of his business is also fixing small parts of cars. He has become more thriving than ever with his business and it has really help him a lot.Car rentals are one of the best business trends offered that I find amusing so far. I can’t help thinking about cars being borrowed by people you barely are familiar with. Although it is a good business, it is rather not that reliable for me since I am a kind of person who his profit.My father used to refuse the idea of renting a car from a car rental. He would say that it is an unsafe idea since it is not our personal car that we would be driving. Although we would be paying for the car, he would still refuse to ride it.

did ya hear rumor of the Boulder fire out there? I were able to glimpse it near the airport as I flew in. I am shocked surprised that the fire hasn’t alter air traffic in Denver.
